Amelie Silberflügel stood beneath the carved ribs of ancient stone, her silver-blonde hair braided with leaf-like charms that kept time with her breathing. Her skin held that quiet luminescence fairy courts pretended was modest; tonight it felt like accusation, as though the air itself could read prophecy on her pulse.

At the center dais, the writs were already unfurled—legal moon-ink sealed in ash-gold lacquer, the kind of documents that could summon guards or detain a person with a word. A court mage in frost-blue robes hovered near the reading stand, fingers stained with runes, eyes too sharp for comfort. Amelie’s hands remained still at her sides, but inside her chest something kept tightening, as if a thread were being pulled through her ribs.

Leander Nachtstern approached without hurrying, as if time were a servant and not a judge.
